Match Writing Sample:
Triple H vs CM Punk - Hell in a Cell Match
The bell rings to start the match. Both men walk up to the center of the ring. Both men staring at each other. As you can feel the hatred coming from both of these men. Professionally, both CM Punk & Triple H respect one another's in-ring abilities. On a personal level however? Neither individual can stand the sight of the other man.
Jim Ross: King, for weeks. This feud has been building up to be a pure wrestling classic. The hatred between these men is so overwhelming. You can feel it in the air. CM Punk has put Triple H & his wife Stephanie through verbal hell in the last several months. While Triple H has done his best to remain professional. Only to be pushed over the edge to where he had no choice but to step back into the ring with arguably one of WWE’s finest Superstars today in CM Punk.
Jerry Lawler: Tonight is gonna be one for the record books here at SummerSlam. The fans here in Los Angeles are pumped up & excited. CM Punk has a point to prove to Triple H that he is indeed the “Best in the World”. For Triple H. This is about redemption for himself, and his family for all the trash talking CM Punk has done.
After a couple of moments of trash talking. The fists started flying. Both men start exchanging rights & lefts. Up until CM Punk gets the better of “The Game”. As he starts slapping the taste out of his mouth with a flurry of chops. Followed by a spin kick to the mid-section & a Roundhouse Kick to the skull of Triple H. Sending the “King of Kings” down to the mat. As Triple H quickly rolls out of the ring to the arena floor. Triple H paces around the ring for a moment or two to regain his composure. As Punk stares him down from inside the ring. Yelling: “Is that the best you got, old man?”. Then delivers a crotch chop out of spite to Triple H. To which the fans pop for CM Punk.
Jim Ross: I believe CM Punk figuratively, in more ways then one, just told Triple H to “Suck It”, King.
Jerry Lawler: Not sure if that’s a wise move by CM Punk to provoke Triple H like this. Using one of his trademark taunts to get under the “The Game’s” skin is not going to go over well with Hunter.
Triple H shakes his head in disgust. As he mouths off to Punk: “You’re a dead man Punk!” As Hunter quickly slides back into the ring. Flooring CM Punk with a tackle as he starts delivering mounted punches one right after the other as the crowd starts to get into the match. After this. Hunter picks Punk up to his feet, then irish whips him out to the floor. As Punk’s body hit’s the floor with a loud thud. Triple H follows him out to the floor. Triple H grabs Punk by the hair and goes to slam Punk’s head into the cage. Only for Punk to counter and slam Hunter’s head into it instead. From here, Punk grabs Hunter by the arm and tosses him into the steel steps nearby. As Triple H goes flying over the steps. Grimacing in pain. Punk walks over and picks Hunter up to his feet. Tossing him back into the ring first. Then Punk looks under the ring apron for a weapon
Jim Ross: Wonder what is going through the mind of CM Punk right now, King?
Jerry Lawler: Bad intentions. Punk is intent on putting Triple H out of the business forever. By any means necessary. CM Punk is sick & tired of the status quo that had been set around the WWE. Placing blame on Triple H & the rest of the McMahon family for his unhappiness with the organization. He feels that by ending Triple H’s career tonight inside this deadly Hell in a Cell structure. He can change the landscape of the WWE forever!
CM Punk pulls out a weapon Triple H knows all too well, the Sledgehammer!
Jim Ross: Business is about to pick up, King. Look at what CM Punk has in his hands!
Jerry Lawler: Indeed JR. Not only does CM Punk plan to pulverize Triple H with his own sledgehammer. But what a mind game he’s playing too. Psychologically. CM Punk is using Triple H’s best weapons & moves to HIS advantage. Which is gotta be throwing Hunter off his game big time, no pun intended.
CM Punk slides into the ring with the sledgehammer in hand A devilish grin comes across Punk’s face. As he waits for Hunter to get up to his feet. As he does so. Punk charges in with the sledgehammer. With the intent of smashing Hunter’s skull in with it. Triple H pulls a move out of the Ric Flair playbook as he quickly delivers a low blow to Punk. As Punk doubles over in pain. Dropping the sledgehammer on the mat. As Hunter picks up the hammer . He raises the sledgehammer high above his head and slams it down into the back & spine of CM Punk. Punk screams out in pain as he rolls over onto his back. Triple H looks down on Punk. With the intent to kill in his eyes. He drives the sledgehammer into the mid-section of CM Punk not once, not twice, but three times. As Punk rolled around in agony, selling the sledgehammer shots. Triple H walks over to Punk. Grabbing him by the head to pull him up to the mat. As Hunter throws him into the ropes and catches Punk coming back. Spinning him around & slamming him with a deadly, “Double A” style Spinebuster. Hunter then goes for the cover.
1.…….2.…….
And Punk gets out at 2 ½. The crowd gasps, thinking it was all over. But little did the fans at the Staples Center know. This was just the beginning of things to come.
Jim Ross: I thought it was over right there King. How much more punishment can CM Punk take!
Jerry Lawler: Apparently as much as Triple H can dish out. Its gonna take more then a Spinebuster & a few sledgehammer shots to put the “Cult of Personality” down.
Triple H briefly argues with the ref over the two count. But then quickly picks CM Punk up to his feet. Then throws him back into the ropes once more. Triple H looks to catch Punk with a clothesline. However, Punk ducks and bounces off the opposite side. Running back at Triple H. Punk catches “The King of Kings” with a Running Leg Lariat. Both men quickly get up to there feet. Punk hits Triple H with a stiff kick to the breadbasket as he tosses Hunter into the turnbuckle. Punk charges at Triple H and catches him with the High Knee. Hitting Hunter in the jaw as hard as he could. Then bulldogs Triple H out of the corner. Punk then goes in for the cover .
1.…………. 2.………….
And a near fall. CM Punk slams his hands down to the mat out of frustration. Then quickly calms down & regains his composure. As Punk picks Hunter up and tosses him out to the floor. Punk follows him out and then begins to slam Hunter's face repeatidly into the cage. Grinding his face into the steel. As the fans start counting with Punk with every slam:
1, 2, ,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and dramatic pause, 10!
Hunter then spins around and does a ‘Flair flop’ on the arena mat. Some fans in the front row start to chuckle as Punk laughs along with them. Punk then looks under the ring once more. Only this time. To pull out a steel chair. As he grabs the chair. Hunter starts to pull himself up to his feet. Using the cage as leverage. Punk pulls the chair back and swings. Bashing it over the skull of Triple H. The force of that one chair shot could be heard from miles away, it was that loud.
Jim Ross: I believe CM Punk has just knocked Triple H into next week, King. What a shot!
Jerry Lawler: More like into the next decade (laughs). What’s worse though JR. This is far, far from over. I don’t believe either one of these men are gonna let the other get the best of em’. There ego’s are so huge, I don’t know if you contain them inside this hellacious structure.
Punk then swings the chair up over his head and drives the chair into the back of Triple H. As he does so. Hunter cries out in pain. Blood starts to trickle down from Hunter’s forehead. As Hunter crawls around on his hands & knee’s. Trying his best to get away from CM Punk. Punk follows, and stalks “The Game” around like a cold-blooded animal ready to pounce on his prey. Punk yells out to Hunter, as Hunter continues to crawl away: “Do I look like Pat Patterson to you?” Fans who got the inside joke laughed , as Punk slammed the steel chair once again into the back of Triple H. After this, Punk tosses the chair to the side. As he picks Hunter up. Gives him a couple of quick chops to the chest, as Hunter leans up against the cage. However, Triple H counters back, and delivers a couple of stiff knife-edge chops of his own to Punk. To which, the crowd does there best “Woooooo!!!” chants to each chop delivered.
Hunter then slams Punk’s face into the steel. Then, irish whips Punk into the cage wall nearby. As this happens. Hunter see’s the steel steps nearby. He picks up the steps. With Hunter’s face a crimson mask. Hunter charges at Punk with the steel steps in hand. Looking to pull a ‘battering ram’ of sorts with the steps to Punk’s skull.
Jim Ross: OH MY GOD!!! LOOK OUT! LOOK OUT PUNK!!!
Triple H collides with CM Punk, as the force of Triple H driving the steel steps into Punk against the cage wall was too much for the cell to handle. This portion of the wall explodes basically, as both men go out of the cage. With both men down, and seemingly out for the count. Triple H’s arm is drapped over Punk’s body. However, as we well know with Hell in a Cell matches of the past. There is no pinfalls or submissions on the outside. The capacity crowd on hand start chanting “Holy Sh*t!!!” repeatidly.
Jerry Lawler: I think both men are dead, JR. Look at this carnage. Triple H was willingly ready to sacrifice life & limb to take CM Punk out. But I wonder if “The Game” has gone too far?
Jim Ross: This looks like a car wreck on I-90. Somebody needs to stop the damn match! This has gone too far, King! Nobody deserves this!
After what seemed like forever. Triple H pulls himself up off the ground. As he attempts to pull CM Punk up to his feet. Punk is virtually dead weight at this point. As Hunter picks Punk up over his shoulders and drives him back first into the Spanish announce table. Coincidently, waking CM Punk up out of dream street. As Punk screams out in pain. Looking like he can’t take much more of this punishment being bestowed upon him by the Cerebral Assassin.
As Punk fell to the ground. Triple H begins clearing off the table of the monitors, cables & wires. Afterwards, Triple H picks Punk up and tosses him on the table. The fans watching on with anticipation rise to there feet. As they know what is about to come next.
Jim Ross: Come on Triple H. Enough is enough, dammit. The kid doesn’t deserve this!
Triple H begins to set Punk up for the Pedigree. Just as Hunter begins to hook both arms up. CM Punk starts to get his second wind. As he counters the Pedigree. Finding a way with all that’s left in him to shove Hunter away momentarily. As Punk then delivers a stiff shot to the mid-section of Triple H. Then starts elbowing Hunter’s skull repeatidly as blood starts to pour out and stain on Punk’s elbow pad. Woozy and out of it. Punk turns the tables on Triple H. As he puts Hunter’s head between his legs. Hooks the arms. Then drives Hunter down face first with all of his might with a Pedigree of his own. The Spanish announce table shatters upon impact.
Jerry Lawler: Well JR. After this match, its safe to say that WWE can kiss the ‘PG’ rating goodbye. This is amazing! Such brutality in this contest.
Jim Ross: I’ve been calling the action for well over 30 years, King. I can assure you. I’ve NEVER seen anything quite like this. Both these men will have battle scars on them to last a lifetime.
CM Punk is the first to get up to his feet. As he stumbles over to the cage. He starts to look up to the heavens above. As an idea pops into his head.
Jerry Lawler: I don’t like the looks of this. I think Punk has snapped. That look in his eyes is not going to bold well for Triple H.
Punk walks over and begins to drag Triple H over to the other announce table. Lawler & JR quickly scatter. As Punk starts throwing everything off the table. Then, picks up Hunter and tosses him on the table. Hunter is lying there motionless on his back. Blood covering him from his head, dripping down to his lower body. Seeing that Triple H wasn’t about to go anywhere anytime soon. CM Punk yells to an unconscious Triple H: “I’m gonna drive the stake into your heart, Hunter. Its over!”
Jerry Lawler: Oh no! What do you think Punk has in mind now, JR? He’s lost his mind!
Jim Ross: Whatever it is. Its not gonna end well for either of these men. We knew going into this match. Both men were gonna tear each other apart. We figured it was going to be brutal. We’ve seen all that, and then some. But I think Punk is gonna take this to a level never seen before.
Punk then starts to climb and ascend the cage. As Punk inches closer and closer to the top. The fans start getting more excited, and crazy by the second. Punk eventually reaches the top. About 20-25 feet above the arena floor now. Punk stares down Triple H from above. Then looks up into the heavens. As he points his arms up in the air. With this one motion. Everyone watching both at home and in the arena. Know what is coming next!
Jim Ross: C’mon Punk! Don’t do this. You and Triple H have done enough. This is… this is going too far. Even for these two men. I don’t care how personal these issues are with Phil Brooks & Paul Levesque. This is uncalled for on so many levels, King.
Jerry Lawler: Only thing CM Punk see’s right now is red. He’s out to prove to Triple H that he’s every bit as good, if not better, then Hunter & the rest of the WWE roster. To him. Its about earning respect and it looks like he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get that.
As the crowd starts to chant “Jump!”, “Jump!”, “Jump!” over & over. CM Punk does what Lawler & JR fear worst. He dives off the cage and drives his elbow into the chest/heart of Triple H. To a thunderous crash on the arena floor. The table explodes upon impact. Both men are unconscious as you’d expect from such a climatic dive. At this point .JR & The King throw down there headsets. The referee in charge of this contest, Mike Chioda, tells the timekeeper to ring the bell. As he, and other referee’s, EMT’s, etc. Begin to check on both men. Even JR & The King go to both Triple H & CM Punk. Fearing for the well- being of both individuals. Not too long after that. The stretchers begin to be rolled out. As both Punk & Triple H are loaded up on separate stretchers. Neck braces on, and strapped to the gurny. Both men are rolled out of the arena to a thunderous ovation from the crowd.
While the match has been ruled a “No Contest” officially. The story told tonight will be one to remember for the ages. As the WWE SummerSlam logo appears to officially end the show…
