w/ DELT∆ & thanks for not having Amiee involved
As we return from holiday break we see the returning Angelica Lockhart as her hit podcast Angelic Danger is back once again.
Angelica Lockhart: Welcome back and happy holidays everybody.I hope everyone had a great vacation. But tonight I have a special guest, he and myself had a tad bit of history way back, but tonight he joins me as my guest. Please help me welcome back Daniel Widdel aka Jaydan Gabriel
She smiles as it's been quite sometime since they last saw each other.
Angelica Lockhart: Your wife isn't gonna pop up here is she?
Daniel Widdel: Of course not, but you know how she is, you just may never know.
Daniel let out a nervous laugh, rubbing his beard.
Daniel Widdel: She’s been busy juggling motherhood and filming movies. We are lucky to have help on the side from my mother and a nanny, so it’s not too overwhelming for the both of us. So as along as she gets her ‘medicine’ for the night, she’s right.
Tina smiles slightly nodding letting out a chuckle.
Angelica Lockhart: Sorry, just kind of hard to picture Aimee as a mother.Just how I know her.But then again people could say the same about me as well
Referring to the mommy part, before getting back on track.
Angelica Lockhart: We talk more about that later, but since this is about you. What made you wanna join the wrestling career? Was your family supportive of the decision?
Daniel Widdel: Originally I sought out a MMA career, it was something I was really into then I was younger. I had the boyhood dreams of wanting to be a fighter or a rock star. My mother told me to go to college, So I did that, I went to New York and studied Screenwriting and Filmmaking. On the side I trained in MMA, even auditioning for The Ultimate Fighter reality show. I didn’t make the final cut, but I trained anyway. When personal issues took over I had to make the decision to leave MMA. It’s a funny story how I turned to wrestling. In the end of 2008, Amiee and I reconnected after many years since our initial split. At the time Amiee was getting back in wrestling and she had this big bright idea of me getting into wrestling too. I was hesitant at first, because I didn’t really understand the crazy world of wrestling. But when I stepped into the ring, I instantly fell in love. My perspective changed, I saw wrestling as a creative outlet where I can be a fighter. Also having Amiee’s enthusiastic energy by my side just really helped me find my stepping in the ring.
Angelica Lockhart:
Is there a difference between the two?MMA/Wrestling?Or a different technique? My brother used to be a part-timer MMA guy before switching back and forth for awhile.
As she wondered knowing she saw a difference with the workout for sure how he transformed .
Daniel Widdel: I know a lot of MMA guys give a lot of shit towards wrestling. They are different breeds, but they both still involve a lot of athleticism and conditioning. When I was doing MMA I was much smaller because I had to make weight for my weight-class. With wrestling I have a lot more freedom with with workouts so it’s not a big deal of my build becoming bulkier.
Angelica nods knowing that for a fact that most of them bitch about it on twitter nowadays.
Angelica Lockhart: Now you started to debut in ZXWWF for a short time.Your first feud was against your ex-wife at the time?Or on Again off again girlfriend Amiee...Did you two plan that as your debut?Or was that a complete shock to you during that time?
Daniel Widdel: It was all planned.
Daniel let out a laugh.
Daniel Widdel: I believe at the time, Amiee was hanging around some dude called Jay Lethal. I don’t even remember how that whole thing happened, but at the time Amiee and I were pretty much together behind the scenes which we kept under wraps. The whole ‘Ghost’ thing was something we came up because Amiee needed to be set straight with her ‘crazy ways’. It was fun playing out our relationship to the public and strangely enough, made us even closer.
Angelica Lockhart: Shortly after that you joined forces with a giant named Big Show forming a group call The Shift. It didn’t last long. What made you wanna join forces with a 7ft giant who could literally kill you with his foot ?
She tries not to laugh but a small chuckle formed
Daniel Widdel: Ehh, I suppose it was a way to get ahead at that time. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of Big Show. I was a unknown at the time so I had to use whatever to get ahead. Big Show was that dude, I guess.
Daniel shrugged his shoulders.
Angelica Lockhart: Well ,during your singles run again after the departure from The Shift. You started getting into singles competition. And your eyes fell on the Gen-Next championship. Only one well er ,two problems stopped you, Samuel and your drama girlfriend Amiee.
She said wondering how he could have focused throughout any of Aimee's drama-free zone
Angelica Lockhart: When you and Amiee fight, does it motivate you?Or adds stress to your situation when you step in the ring?
Daniel Widdel: We do what normal couples do, we fight because we care about each other. We are two people who are egocentric so we are bound to clash over everything and anything. I wanted to do my way, and she thought she had a better idea.We push each other to do better, but sometimes we can fall in the trap which has us falling flat on our faces. The whole thing with Samuel was just a test of our relationship. You just sometimes gotta push the boundaries to see where your relationship is worth the fight.
Daniel continued.
Daniel Widdel: Now since Amiee has taken a step back from wrestling and focusing on her career, I think now is the right time for me to break out on my own. Amiee will always be a big part of my career, but she understands that she can’t micro-manage everything about me anymore. She had three little people she needs to handle too.
Daniel let out a laugh, rubbing his beard referencing their children.
Angelica Lockhart: You left ZXWWF was that on your own terms ?Even though you did return for a short time but ended up leaving again...were you getting frustrated at that time?
Daniel Widdel: Let me correct you right there, I only left once before ZXWWF’s unfortunate closure in 2010. But my initial departure stemmed from personal reasons. When I was in ZXWWF was on a handshake deal, so I needed some time away. Amiee had went away to film a movie and my mother suffered an accident. So my mind wasn’t in wrestling in those months. Sometimes family comes first rather than the wrestling.
Angelica nods her head knowing she had a few personal issues to deal with in her own life.
Angelica Lockhart: Hey,I get it.Personal life always comes first. But like we always do, we find a way to return when we least expect it.You did return to wrestling world but in a new company for a short time called UFWA.
As she was there for a short time too so she knows how it was near the end as everybody was struggling.
Angelica Lockhart: I'm sure everyone has there reasons for joining Kristen's and Raven's fed at the time. Like most it was to keep food on the table or to pay the bills. But in reality I think it was a escape of really starting over.Trying to find out if you truly still belong in the wrestling business,UFWA was a stepping stone.A new era certainly was the beginning .But what was your reason for joining? You were doing music on and off you could have turned that into a full time career...
Daniel Widdel: Man, funny you bring that up because I totally had blocked that from memory.
Daniel let out hard laugh. He rubbed his temple to try to dig deep in his memory of UFWA without being too harsh.
Daniel Widdel: it really came down to just taking a risk. I had to keep an open mind and see what UFWA offered. Like you said, I needed to make ends meet so I had to at least make my wrestling career worthwhile. At the stage I was floating around and definitely my mind wanted to branch into music at the time. When I was in UFWA, my band was a little baby. I needed to find the missing element to make it flourish. Thankfully by 2011 I was able to find it so I could focus full-time into music.
Angelica Lockhart: So,music...why turn to that route? Wrestling and singing are two different genres obviously...
She knows her reason on why she decided to get into the music world.
Daniel Widdel: When I was in college, I found two very great mates who had the same passion of music. We had this big idea of making a band called Cranes of Ocean, but we had a missing piece. We attempted a few ‘auditions’ but we couldn’t find that right fit. Like I said, in 2011, we found the one and it was my half-brother Henry Blakehurst, who likes to go by the name Axel.
Daniel rubbed his chin, thinking about his relationship with his half brother.
Daniel Widdel: It’s an interesting story how found out about each other. My dad had an affair a few years before he passed where he had Axe. Down the road, Axel found Amiee’s brother, Eric and it just fell into place. At first I abhorred him, but when I realized he was the missing ingredient to my band, I had to open my arms. You gotta let hard feelings slide if you wanna be in a successful band.
Angelica nods her head understand that part very well...
Angelica Lockhart: After taking a break from music, you returned to wrestling once again. Was there a specific reason why you wanted to return? You had your band going...you could have retired from wrestling for good.
Daniel Widdel: Deep down I had this itch about wrestling. Even though I could’ve just rode through the sunset with my band, I just had this inkling that my business in wrestling was unfinished. I didn’t want to leave my wrestling career on the note I left it at. I didn’t want to be seen as a guy who just gives up after a few failures. I just thought to myself, I’m not even that old, I’m only in my early 30’s, so I still have many years left in the business. And this time I’m able to take charge of my career with no crazy business and no nagging wife always on my side.
Daniel let out a nervous laugh, hoping Amiee wouldn’t be seeing this interview.
Daniel Widdel: Just really doing what I should’ve done in my career, working on my own terms. I’m older and wiser, so I have a better understanding to where my career in wrestling should stand.
She understood that as well agreeing with his statement
Angelica Lockhart: You did return at least a part time return to GZWA...what was that feeling like to return?Im sure it was a bit nerve racking.Did you have any goals coming back?
Daniel Widdel: From all the companies I’ve been part of, GZWA was the one place I wanted to make my return in. I left unfavourably back in 2010 and I never liked how it went down. Time heals all wounds, and coming back to GZWA was no brainer. I have to say that also seeing Delta Madison having a lengthy three year run really inspired me. Coming back into it all, my ultimate goal was to become the World Champion, but I managed to quickly win the Television Championship. But unfortunately my run was cut short due to a shoulder injury, which I’ve recently just got cleared from.
Daniel paused to massage his left shoulder, slowly moving it in circles to show he has regained his strength.
Daniel Widdel: Having that injury really put things in perspective for me. I realized that I was still hungry, that I needed better challenges out there hence why I decided not to renew my contract in GZWA. I feel this is the stage where I can branch out to other places to get myself out of my comfort zone.
She noticed him rubbing his should wondering if she should bring it up...
Angelica Lockhart:How's the rehab going? I'm sure like most who has been injured in the past by a specific injury,it takes time to heal. Will you be doing things different with you're training? If you decide to come back to wrestling?many new challenges out there for me and I’m excited to see where it will bring me.
Daniel Widdel: My training is fantastic, and my shoulder is much stronger than ever. But I guess you haven’t been paying attention. I have already made my decision, if you hadn’t known I’ve already signed a lucrative deal in a new company called Frontier Grappling Arts Wrestling. It’s a different environment and a bunch of new people, but I thrive on the challenge. I think FGA will make me a stronger, smarter and better wrestler.
She shook her head not aware of Daniel's new place in a different company.
Angelica Lockhart: Honestly,I haven't stayed in the loop about my wrestling friends/family these days.
Most of them hate her to begin with to even remain in contact...and the others well.... she clears her throat before looking back up at his direction losing concentration.
Angelica Lockhart: But I do wish you good luck Daniel.Looks like it is gonna be a new year for you.Anything else you like to add or say to your fans that are watching?
Daniel Widdel: Thank you, it’s been great to finally have a decent conversation without us bickering.
Daniel grinned and lightly chuckled, remembering their history from years ago.
Daniel Widdel: in 2017, I just want to push forward without looking back, no regrets. As I get older and wiser, I realise you have to piss some people off to do what’s good for your. Sometimes, you can’t live your life as others wish, they don’t have that control over you. Those people who say you can’t do something are the ones who are afraid to see you succeed and actually do something remarkable. I just want to be in the driver's seat of my career, and that’s what I choose to do by signing with a new company, rather than returning to GZWA. No hard feelings, I spent some great months in there. I could’ve snagged that World Title, since apparently my old rival Ry Drake is the Champ if I returned there.
Daniel smirked, raising an eyebrow.
Daniel Widdel: But alas. I’d rather take a gamble by experiencing a new scenery. Become a more confident and stronger wrestler in FGA. I look forward to what lies ahead for me.
Angelica nods recalling their sorted past as well. She was hesitated at first doing this interview with him but she found it surprising comfortable.
Angelica Lockhart:I meant what i said during our last encounter when Amiee and i,guess you could say...
trying to find the right words for this but couldn't think of any.
Angelica Lockhart: semi friendship?
she laughs knowing that's not the word she uses but...eh.
Angelica Lockhart: Everybody needs to grow up sometime right?Well, for myself was finding my son again.
Not really wanting to get into too much detail at least until her special comes. She noticed it was time to close the episode for another day as she cleared her throat.
Angelica Lockhart;Well once again Daniel, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to join me.As always hit me up on twitter to say who you guys would like me to do a sit-down interview with next...see you guys next time
