I can't go one day without hearing a song talking about murder, sex, violence, drug abuse etc. The songs nowadays of rap and hip hop are making no sense and are actually embracing the negativity in this world.
What do you think about it?

That's why I don't listen to a lot of the new rap and hip-hop. Most of it degrades women too, which is a load of crap.

I like Kanye West. He raps about his haters and whatnot. Everyone else? It's all a gimmick. Every song is the same imo.

That's why I drifted more into the rock category. Problem is I hate alot of the rock stuff coming out too, lol. I can't say I listen to much rap or hip hop anymore at all, unless it's a classic or old favorite.

That's why I don't listen to a lot of the new rap and hip-hop. Most of it degrades women too, which is a load of crap. Like that pussy 50 Cent who only whines about how many times he's been shot, money, drugs, bitches, and hos. I remember the first time I listened to "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", I was like: "What the fuck is this shit?!" 50 Cent: "They ain't strong enough to take nine like me..." Yeah, well YOU ain't strong enough to take the coke that Nikki Sixx did. With 50 Cent, I'm wondering if I get shot numerous, could I make a bunch of shitty albums whining about how many times I've been shot. I'm still waiting on that tenth shot that will kill him. Kanye West: Only good songs he had were Gold Digger and Power. That's IT! IMO, the only rappers nowadays that are worth listening to are Eminem and Jay-Z. All the others can fuck off for all I care. I really miss the days of NWA, Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie, Tupac, and Ice Cube (as a Solo Artist). When it comes to Rock/Metal: The only band from the last 12 years that I find myself listening to is Disturbed and they're currently on hiatus. I also listen to alot of the stuff from the 1960s-Mid 1990s right before the downfall of music initially began with Britney Spears and the shitty boybands.

I can't go one day without hearing a song talking about murder, sex, violence, drug abuse etc. The songs nowadays of rap and hip hop are making no sense and are actually embracing the negativity in this world. What do you think about it? I hate to say it, but I partially disagree. Not saying that hip hop and rap doesn't contain this. It's just not all hip hop and rap does, including today. Mainstream, I can agree with you there, especially from rappers like Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and, admittedly, Odd Future. As a matter of fact, hip hop and rap aren't the only genres that contain drug abuse, murder, sex, and violence. Some rock songs, especially in the past, pretty much promoted the use of alcohol, sex, and/or violence in various fashions. They don't call it "Sex, Drugs, & Rock N' Roll" for nothing. From what I've heard on the radio, Country is rare with this content though. Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" has to be one example of promoting violence. As far as Rap/Hip Hop, I think your best bet is to listen to rappers like Common, Rakim, KRS One, and A Tribe Called Quest. Mainstream rappers? Maybe Kanye West. Drake is an example as well, but it is heavily limited. Some of his songs that aren't "singles" are okay for the most part, especially his mixtapes. But I hardly listen to any music on the radio anyways. I'm a French House, Nu-Disco, Neo Soul, and J-R&B fan.

I can understand where you're coming from Andre. I haven't listened /followed anything mainstream since high school like roughly 8-10 years ago. Yeah, that's how old I am compared to most of you guys I remember turning on the radio a few months back and cringing at some rap song about a girl not having on any underwear on. I still occassionally still follow Eminem and Linkin Park but in my elder years I've listened to primarily just instrumentals (or anime/video game/movie soundtracks) more than songs with vocals. If I do, I can't stop being a sucker for the good old fashioned love and pop songs for the life of me. Sue me, Mariah Carey's the last "legendary voice" of my generation after Whitney and MJ died. Sure, I'd hear a song here and there I'd like but I haven't had the urget to buy or download someone's entire CD in YEARS.

Meh... Rap/Hip-Hop never appealed to me much at all. Me personally. I've always been a Metallica, Godsmack & Disturbed fan. I'll listen to anything with those 3 bands attached. Outside of that. It just depends on who it is.

As I read these comments, I understand that I am the most mainstream person here I can listen to just about anything, except for country. I don't know why, but that style just annoys me. I personally listen to bands like "My Chemical Romance", "Three Days Grace", "Papa Roach", "Rise Against", "HIM", "Apocalyptica", "Panic! at the Disco", "Hurts", "Breaking Benjamin"... But if I like the lyrics of the song or the melody or just the voice of the singer, I don't really care whose song is it, I just listen to it and enjoy myself, since I enjoy music in general

Besides, I have TOO many buds that are music theory graduates and/or play instruments to NOT like music in general.

It's all just a conspiracy to brainwash children and influence them to follow suit with the mainstream. I did a hell amount of research to find this. With the government making less schools and more prisons/jails, the kids who would've gotten an education are instead committing crimes and filling up the jails. That's basically what they are trying to do. So I where you're coming from.
