This edition of GZWA's Hot Spot opens with a shot of the ever-beautiful "Showstoppin' Senorita" and current Divas' Debutante, Mariah.
Mariah smiles towards the camera as the shot pans out to reveal her guest for this evening, none other than "The King of Controversy" himself, Genesis.
Mariah looks towards Genesis with a big grin on her face, "Welcome to the show, Genesis. I'm still surprised that you kept your word to join us here tonight. Let's get straight to good stuff, shall we? Many of the GZWA fans around the world aren't too familiar with your resume, Genesis, could you enlighten us on how you got your start in professional wrestling and how did your career lead you to GZWA?"
Genesis: "I got my start seven years ago working for World Championship Wrestling believe it or not. The company had re-opened its doors in 2005 when Eric Bischoff bought the company back from Vince McMahon. In 2006. I signed a developmental deal for the organization. 2-3 months later. I became the 'sole survivor', in a way. As it turned out. The developmental league wasn't succeeding as well as the company hoped. I think about 95% of those men & women who were in there didn't make it. I remember being one of seven guys to be promoted to the big leagues within' WCW. Subsequently, I became the lone survivor. Many months later. Those other six guys had done left the company and I stuck around for the long haul.
From that point forward. You could say the legacy of Genesis began to grow. I won my first World Championship in February 2007. At this point. The company had became "TNB" - The New Blood. Effectively putting an end to the old 'WCW' legacy and putting focus on new, and original talent that had no WCW ties from the past. Namely myself and a host of other individuals.
Several months later. The company went under and everyone migrated to the Xtraordinary Wrestling Association (or XWA). Long story short. I had many ups & downs there. Due to my reputation in TNB of being this 'controversial' prick both inside and outside the ring. Ya know, you walk into a new company already with a bulls-eye on your back from all around you. So, in that regard. I spent the next 3 & half years there. Learning my craft. Eventually, I built my trust up in the league with the higher ups. So much so, that in 2008. I earned there 'Xtraordinaire' status. Which in there eyes was about as close to "Legend' status as you can get. To this day. That is one of my proudest moments in my career. Knowing full well everything I had gone through to that point of mending bridges and fighting, scratching & clawing to get to the level that I always knew I could be at someday. Deep down inside? I can't help but comment that the day I got the award. To all the people who doubted me. Said that I'd never survive based my attitude or reputation. It was the biggest "Fuck You!" I could ever give to those haters. This award had a double meaning to it. While it was prestigious and an honor to have. It was also a way of me getting back to those people who frankly hated my guys & didn't care that I lived or died the next day, ya know?
And of course. Along the way. There were other organizations that I competed in. Those places. Once again. I made it a goal of mine to continue to build & hone my skills as a professional wrestler. From the wrestling aspect to cutting promo's & doing public appearances.
All these things led me to ZXWWF. I credit Shia "Double S" Storm for getting me into the league to start with. I had a blast there for what little time I had to spend with the company before it folded. Wining Money in the Bank at Mania V. Despite being an opener match. I felt that was about as big as winning the World Heavyweight title. Because I knew by winning the briefcase. Even though, with what was about to go down later on in the evening. As bittersweet as it was. It was an honor to me to get this. Because I knew then the company and the higher ups had faith in me that I could very well be there next guy to help carry the company on its shoulders.
From there. I traveled to UFWA. Had a good 6-7 months there overall. But at the end of the day. I wasn't happy with where my character was going there. It seemed like no matter what I did for them or how much of an effort I put in. I wasn't going anywhere above the mid-card status they had put me in. Without stepping on toes or anything. To me. It seemed like if you weren't a friend of the boss. You weren't going to succeed there anyway on a higher level.
So after all that crap. I packed my bags and took my talents to GZWA. And well Mariah? The rest is history in the making as far as I'm concerned.
Genesis and Mariah shared a brief grin before Mariah brings up another question.
Mariah: "Several emails from former ZXWWF fans saw that federations last show and would like to know what did you do with the "Money in the Bank" briefcase that you won on that last broadcast? I remember hearing rumors that night that you was going to cash it in on the champion the next night if Xion Zeros didn't make his announcement to end that company. Do you have any comments on that?"
Genesis: "To answer your first question. Nothing came of my briefcase. When the company folded. That was it. To the other federations eyes. My Money in the Bank victory meant nothing to them. They had no intention on ever letting me cash it in. And so, in that respect. That's why I still have some beef with the other organization. It was like somebody took the rug out from under me. I fought so hard to get this, and now, this other company is not even going to acknowledge this? Not going to use this win as a vehicle to push my character?? (laughs)
To answer your second question. Completely false. My original intentions were to hold to the briefcase til Mania VI or at least the PPV before it to cash it in. I felt that even though I had only been there for like three months. I still had some mountains to climb. There was still things I wanted to do first before I felt I was ready to get to the next level or the mountain top, so to speak.
Mariah looks intrigued, "I'm sorry to hear that. It's a shame that Xion Zeros ended the company the way he did, as I have no doubt that you would have made a superb champion."
Mariah glances at her notes and smiles at her next question, "Those who have followed your career in other territories and companies have mentioned several women in your life. Tell me -- and the GZWA fans around the world -- does the King of Controversy have a special someone in his life?"
Genesis: "Yeah, there have been several girlfriends in the past. One of which, I had married then divorced a year later between 2006-2007. Then I went through a 2nd relationship during my runs between ZXWWF & UFWA. I became really attached to her because we both have been through hell & back. Had gone through alot of public scrutiny despite our success. But at the end of the day. She wanted to go on and do other things. I wanted to remain in the wrestling business. So we mutually agreed to part ways.
As of today? Yes... I'm single. Am I looking for a relationship? Not necessarily. My focus is on my career. I'd like to settle down someday and form a family with someone. But right now. I'm content with my life as it is. I'd like to think once I'm out of the wrestling business. Then I can put my focus onto building on another relationship. Right now, my goals are to build on my career here at GZWA. I'm off to a great start so far and I don't want anything to get in the way or to tarnish this at all."
Mariah nods, "I can relate - since GZWA started this has a been a rather wild ride for my career. So many of my old friends and new have joined this organization, then there's so many new opportunities for me now that I'm not competing in the ring. It's pretty hard to sacrifice your freedom and tie yourself down... willingly."
Genesis perks a brow while Mariah raises her next question.
Mariah: "Many, myself included, thought Shia Storm was retired for good from professional wrestling. How did you drag him out of retirement and set this 'unholy union' between you into motion?"
Genesis: "I really don't think I dragged him out of retirement. Shia's is a smart, but underrated, business man. I pitched him the offer to come join me here at GZWA. He saw the level of competition this organization has to offer. He had an idea of where I was headed. Where I could be in the next couple of years. What ideas and skills he could bring to the table for this place. So ya know. It was a no brainer for Shia Storm to come out of retirement and give these fans a show worth remembering. Plus who wouldn't want to hang out with me? (laughs). Everything I touch in this business, Mariah? Turns to gold. Money starts rolling in. Ratings get higher. People can judge me how they want to on this. But I have the Midas touch that very, very few people have in this industry. Not only do I wanna make myself better? But its a goal of mine to make the people I work with better. Don't believe me? Look at AJ Styles. The guy is probably having one of the best runs he's had in a long, long time in his career. It wasn't just because one day he woke up and decided to step it up. He saw the level that I was in and where I was heading. He was forced to step up his game to compete with me. Because of that? Look at where both of us are today. The Television Title to me is just as big, if not bigger, then the World title scene right now. I dare any one wrestler or fan to argue that point with me."
Mariah nods in agreement, "Point taken. Both divisions have their own strong, healthy share of competition. Speaking of competition... Who are some of your favorite opponents that you've faced in your illustrious career? We all know you have your eyes on AJ Styles and his 'prize' but are their any other members of the GZWA roster that you are eager to engage with in the squared circle?"
Genesis: "Believe it or not. I'd like to have a run someday with my buddy Double S. I think if you put the both of us on opposite sides of the corner. You're gonna get your money's worth every single week. Outside of him. Amanda Cortez is a huge player in this business. We've been in the same places and she's talked some shit about me in the past. Deep down. She knows I'm a threat to her. Despite her blowing me off on not being at her 'level' and being looked at as nothing but 'filler'. Other talent like Andre Holmes or Alkertrez would be great to work with. Dolph Ziggler is making a solid run so far. He'd be fun to tangle with in the ring. Mike Bradley is another. So I mean, there is really so much talent here that I can see myself making an impact with. As hard as it might be to believe Mariah.
I know that I do have one of the biggest 'ego's' in this industry. I know I'm a hot-head and I love to run my mouth. Why? Because there isn't a person alive that will ever shut me up. But at the end of the day. If the person I'm working with isn't getting 'better' due to working with me? Or if I'm not helping them elevate there game to that next level? Whilst at the same time. Helping me out and helping me also learn a few new tricks along the way? Then... I feel my job is only half done. Bottom line. You'll never make it in this business if you're dumb enough to think that only one person alone can build themselves up to a higher level. As an example. I can look at somebody like a Dolph Ziggler and say "Ohhh, I can do something special with him". Or put me in the ring with Amanda Cortez or a Beth Phoenix, and I can help elevate there game or push them to there limits & beyond. THAT, is the most thrilling part of my job. Is when I can sit back and say that I've had a positive impact on somebodies career. Despite, what they may think of me personally. Fans may hate the ground I walk on. The IWC may think I'm overrated. The wrestlers may feel that I rub them the wrong way. I'm here to do business and I know. That if these guys aren't getting pushed. There isn't going to be a 'business' left for me to leave to when my career is said & done."
Mariah's eyes light up as she springs her last question, "Do you have any plans in the near future? I have a 'special date' in mind..."
Genesis - "I assume by your demeanor. You mean more then just what I plan to do going forward with my career, right Mariah?"
To Genesis' surprise, Mariah bursts out laughing. She resumes her business-like demeanor before answering, "I'm talking about the Devils May Cry PPV, silly. Don't you have a date with destiny - the so-called day that you're going to have yet another epic clash with AJ Styles... Why Genesis, if I didn't know any better you might have had something naughty on your mind..."
Both Genesis and Mariah look at each other silently before sharing a laugh.
Mariah then smiles back at the camera, "I guess that's all the time we have tonight, GZWA fans." She turns back to Genesis, "It's been a pleasure having you sit down for an interview and shed some light on this aura of mystery about yourself."
Genesis nods, "No, no, it's my pleasure. I always aim to please. What can I say, I'm a man that always leaves that lasting impression on everything that I do."
Mariah smirks, "I'm sure you do... Good night, dolls!" She blows a kiss at the camera as the scene fades to black on this GZWA.com exclusive.
