Okay,im desperate and im looking everywhere so decided to take a shot.My boyfriend's laptop basically shut down for almost 2 months now.We thought it was the charger and got a new one.The charger worked for about a day and stopped charging.We'd try to turn it on but still won't turn on at all...i'm trying the little tricks i find online but still they don't help.
We don't have the money to get it fixed so im basically hoping i could fix it myself but i don't know a THING about laptops lol so if someone could help us we'd be really greatful

Don't quote me on this, but if you bought a new charger and it worked for a day odds are the battery pack is fucked. Does the laptop turn on while the cord is plugged in?
I'm sorry, that's the best I can do without being able to look at it. Your best bet (and I feel ya on the broke part) is to find a tech you trust and have them look at it.

nope...i even tried the flashlight trick to all i see is black.We don't even see a red light for the charger on the bottom anymore so i know it's a computer problem

If its still under warranty they generally replace it for free

well he had it for 5 years or so so i don't think that'll help and i think it's a either 2006/7 but im not sure unless i look at the box again

IMO it sounds like two problems.
1) Like Justice said, your battery is prolly fucked. Buy a replacement battery from a retailer.
2) If your charger isn't detected nor charging, it's more likely that charger port is damaged. If you're one of those people who plug and unplug your laptop this is bound to happen. It's even more common in laptops the older they get. This is an issue that you can't fix yourself. You need a professional to fix that one.

I've found laptops tend to die off after 5 years of heavy use
