The scene opens to rather bizarre turn of events, with the "Showstoppin' Senorita" conducting a rather unique type of interview - with herself.
"Interviewer" Mariah: Let's get things started shall we, Miss Cruz?
Mariah: Fire away with the questions. It's about time someone killed the silence around GZWA with the PPV around the corner anyway.
Fine then. How did the past few weeks force you to step back into the ring at Slammiversary?
Mariah sighs before replying.
I've been asking myself constantly lately. I thought I've done enough for this business and for women's wrestling in general that didn't have to step back into this arena again. I don't have to prove myself to anyone and I've already enjoyed more than enough fame and success in other promotions around the world.
I felt that it was appropriate for me to step away from the ring and give back to the next generation and those who wanted to follow in my footsteps. As many have known, I'm an active trainer here in GZWA for some of the Divas prior to their on-air debuts, making sure they are ready to handle GZWA's 'style'. I've done the same in Xion Zeros' former promotion ZXWWF as well, training several aspiring women, including our own Raven, Katie Matthews, and Cheeka.
Yes, Cheeka. The one that this 'comeback' is really about. My fans that have followed my career throughout the years should know I have a rather decorated past with her. During that whole "Z has amnesia" angle where Cheeka held ZXWWF -- and Z himself -- by the groin, I followed her every command like a love sick puppy after being dumped by Xion. She'd say jump and I'd say how high...
She looks down at the floor.
Yeah, I'll admit. That was the lowest point of my career... But I bounced back from it. I didn't allow losing and letting the gold slip through my fingers define me as anything less nor discredit the marvel and stellar performance I put down in that ring, regardless of who my opponent was. It makes me sick to see people think it's the end of the world when they run down a string of losses and bad luck. Of course, I'm no goddess nor have proclaimed winning the gold was something that was predestined upon my birth and arrival into this company but that's no reason to allow losses and a few defeats to justify a fall from grace.
I think I know what's going through Cheeka's head. She was at the top of her game when discarded all of her friends and used everyone around her like pawns on a chess board. Now that she's unable to get the ball rolling in GZWA, she's going to target me first and work her way up the ladder of success.
Why is that? What kind of connection did you two share?
I was vulnerable and weak after breaking up with Xion, so I tried a lot of crazy things to get my mind off him. Partying all night, drugs, alcohol, sex with the wrong people...
That's how we got close - it was a past-time of hers to escape the pain she was in from her past and was in the passenger seat for the nightly roller coaster rides. But eventually, I had the right people to get me out of my rut -- namely my younger sisters and friends -- but Chee still didn't have any 'real' friends other than that tequila bottle.
In her own strange way, she was my comfort zone and helped me get back onto the saddle emotionally after losing Xion. But Chee never called me her friend back then until I invited her to hang out with me regularly -- without the drugs, misdemeanors and narrow escapes from spending a night in jail. I was her reason to stop relying on that bottle to solve all of her problems and provide respectable living for her and her daughter. As friends, we connected on several levels -- we know things about each other that no one else knows about us. That's what makes Cheeka such a dangerous adversary for me, but I'm the most capable predator to eliminate her as well.
Regardless of our break up, Xion still respects me enough with business positions in his promotions. Using that to my advantage, I talked him into letting her keep her job in ZXWWF after all that trouble she caused, and even managed to talk her into joining GZWA recently.
Whether she knows it or not, I want to see her succeed in this business. But in order for that to happen, she had to stop quitting on herself and those around her.
So you've helped her like she's helped you?
Yes, but I think that's why she's willing to take this hatred of me so far. She thinks she's weak and useless without my help and strayed back to her old friend of the past - that tequila bottle. Ironic, isn't it? She used that same bottle to spit my skull open a month ago.
Whether she likes it or not, I'm bound to help her. It's not just because I was her teacher and mentor when she came into ZXWWF. It's not because she pulled me out of the gutter when my life went to hell. It's not because of some cheesy Hollywood cliche of a belief that there's a shred of my old friend still left in that creature of darkness that she has transformed herself into.
No, it's not all that. I'm going to help her because it's the right thing to do.
How are you exactly going to help her?
Mariah laughs.
That one is easy. By beating the bricks off her from one end of the ring to the other at Slammiversary. The time of talk is over. Chee made that painfully obvious when she struck me with that bottle. What I'm going to do to her at Slammiversary won't be pretty, but it's the only means of stopping her from going down this road of destruction again.
What about the recent addition of Katie Matthews as the special referee?
The Kitty Kat won't dare call foul play here. This is a fight that was going to happen whether there's referees in the ring or not. I want this, and Chee wants it even more. There's no stopping this match. I won't have a problem with Kat calling the match as long as she stays out of my way.
While I have you here, what do you think of Genesis' chances of retaining the GZWA Television Championship?
Mariah laughs.
I'll put it this way. If he loses the title, he'll have to face the reality of being on punishment of no playing with the 'Xbox' for a while.
Any parting words for Chee, Marisol?
Chee, bring your suntan lotion. It's going to be quite hot for you at Slammiversary.
Nightie-night, mi amiga.
