The Crown Jewel of GZWA, Sapphire, is shown in her locker room, getting ready for her Primetime debut against "Hot Rod" Rodney Brooks.
From the time I was a little girl, there was only one thing that I wanted to do. I wanted to prove that I could do anything that I was told I couldn't.
She opens the locker door, lifting her gym bag and pushing it inside. As the door swings open, a photograph can be seen taped up. Sapphire glances over at the photo and smiles.
I remember my older brother and I watching wrestling and we tried to imitate what we saw. Except I didn't want to be his valet, I wanted to be his opponent. I wanted to show that I could do just as much as he could. When I first started training 10 years ago, I decided that I wasn't going to conform to the typical female wrestling style. I wasn't going to be another diva who went out there to symbolize that it's time to take a bathroom break or hit the fast forward button. I decided to take on men and women in the ring, and that I wasn't going to just be a manager or valet, but I wanted to be a competitor. I was told that I couldn't do it and from that moment on, my dream was born.
She pulls the picture off the inside of the locker and unzips a side compartment of her gym bag, pulling out a folded piece of what appears to be newspaper. She holds the picture up to the camera and a young man in his early 20s with dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and a big smile can be seen wearing a Florida State University football jersey standing with who appears to be Sapphire as a teenager, wearing a Melbourne High School soccer uniform.
This picture of Nate and I was taken the summer before I started my senior year of high school just after I made the MHS Varsity Soccer team.
She puts the picture down and slowly unfolds the newspaper, looking at it for a second before turning the newspaper clipping around. The headline reads, "Tallahassee Crash Claims Life of FSU Football Star, Nathan Campbell" with a picture of the same blonde hair, blue eyed young man from the previous picture.
My brother was 22 years old when he was killed. Some asshole thought it was a smart idea to drive drunk and blow through a red light. Because of that, Nate is watching my debut tonight from up there...
She points.
...rather than in the front row.
She puts both the clipping and photo back in her gym back, zipping it up before turning back around.
He always told me to never let anyone hold me back from what I want to do. After I signed my contract at Slammiversary, I went to my trainer, mentor and good friend, Mariah and specifically requested a male opponent to face in my debut match. I want to show that I'm not like these divas. I want to fight and I want to win. I don't care who I have to go through to make it to the top, because I'll go through every single person in this locker room if that's what it takes. I don't care if I face men or women and I sure as hell don't care if I break a nail. Rodney, I hope that you're not thinking you have an easy win tonight because I'm going to prove to you and every one of those people out there tonight, that I'm not a diva. I'm going to be the first ever female GZWA Heavyweight Champion!
She shuts the locker door and leans on it, striking a final pose as the camera fades out to black.
