Mike and Danielle Bradley are in Danielle's gym in Burlington, Mass., preparing for Mike's first match in GZWA since the seizure that drove him into a catatonic state. Instead of working out, though, they're on Danielle's laptop, watching video - video of Rod Hightower.
"Okay, so how are you going to get out of that alley-oop facebuster?"
"Sandbag him?"
"Mike, that's your strategy every time someone goes for a lifting move."
"Yeah, well it hasn't failed before."
"Listen, bro, he's 6'4", 268. You haven't faced an opponent of that size in your career. He's probably strong enough to pick you up anyway. Think of something else."
"Let's see... sweep his legs, then go for an ankle lock?"
"Mike, I think that seizure did more damage than I think you'd like to admit. Here, get in the ring, I'll show you what I'll do. You do the move to me."
They get in the ring, and Mike sets Danielle up for Hightower's finishing move, the Mad Dog Special. He puts Danielle in powerbomb position and lifts her up. As he has her at her peak, Danielle turns the move into a hurricanrana, sending Mike almost tumbling out of the ring.
"Holy shit! I never thought of it that way."
"Yeah, that's why you're my little brother - I've been around this game longer than you have."
She pats him on the back and they go back to the video.
"So let's go over this stuff - cutter, push him away; facebuster, do a hurricanrana; neckbreaker, fall down flat on your back before he gets a chance to do it to you; and the spear, well, just sidestep him and put on the Boston Strangler. Remember, he's a bigger guy, so you'll need to beat him with your speed, Okay?"
"Yeah. Now what about Jordan and Catie on the outside."
"Leave them to me. I got a surprise for them."
"Oh? And what is that?"
"Oh, I think you know what it is. Something you're very familiar with."
She sharply slaps one hand against the other, making a sort of cracking noise that a kendo stick might make.
"Come on, shortstop, stop biting my style." He gives her a playful noogie on the head.
"Yeah, but remember, it's effectively a handicap match, we need to even the score somehow."
"True. All right, I think we got this... let's get back in the win column. Back in the ring?"
"You got it, just like old times."
They shut down the computer and head back into the ring for their first sparring session in almost three years.
