"Get Ready to Fly" by GRITS sounds through the arena, as the crowd pops loudly for The Phenomenal One, as he walks onto the stage in his ring attire. The GZWA Heavyweight Championship is clasped around his waist, as he raises his gloved hands up to show the P1 symbol. After a few seconds, he lifts his hood, flings it off and throws his arms to his side in his signature pose. The crowd continues to cheer, as he makes his way down the ramp and grabs a microphone at ringside, before climbing up the apron and stepping between the ropes. He makes his way to the center of the ring, and wastes no time getting down to business, raising the microphone to his lips.
First of all, I want to thank Xion Zeros for giving me the match that I had asked for tonight. I think it's only fair after being forced to tap to the Execution submission, which I never should have allowed myself to get caught in. I've been GZWA Heavyweight Champion for almost 4 months and since I earned this championship -- yes, I said earned this championship -- I have consistently been hearing people talking. 'AJ doesn't deserve the championship!' or 'AJ Styles isn't championship material!' or whatever the hell else people thought would get to me. Well, I've been in this business for almost 15 years and from the second I wrestled my first match, I was told I couldn't do it for one reason or another.
Now, I didn't come out here to go over my career. I've said on plenty of occasions that I don't want to make a name in GZWA for what I've accomplished elsewhere, but I will say that I'm no stranger to championships. I'm no stranger to putting my body on the line and I'm no stranger to being looked down on. I became the man I am today in a division that was looked at as the mid-card. The ones that weren't good enough to be in the main event. Until one day, people realized that you didn't have to be some 6 foot tall 260 plus pound monster to be good in this business. People think I'm living in the past when I talk about my roots, but without all of that, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have the success or fans on my side.
As I've also talked about before, with success comes a target. This right here makes me the most sought after opponent.
AJ unclasps the championship from his waist and holds it up in the air with his left hand, before lowering it and hoisting it onto his left shoulder.
But before I even get started about my opponent tonight, Double S, I need to address someone else who decided to stick her nose in my business -- Taeler Hendrix. I'm not going to spend much time on you, Taeler, because quite frankly, you don't deserve it. You can talk all the trash you want to talk and you can mock my accent all you want, because all that matters is what happens right here. Tonight, what's going to happen right here is Mei Long is going to show that she's the true definition of a champion. So, I hope you take some notes after your match against her, if you even think you have a chance to become Women's Champion.
He chuckles a bit before continuing.
Speaking of people who want to be champion, heh, I could be out here all night. But there are two people that I want to talk about right now. Funny enough, if you rewind about a year ago, I'd be talking about those same two people -- Double S and Genesis.
Double S, I heard what you had to say about me earlier tonight. Or at least the first couple minutes because I fell asleep after that. Either way, it doesn't matter what you have to say about me. I've been champion for 4 months. I'm the only man on the roster to hold both the GZWA Heavyweight Championship and the GZWA Television Championship. So, when all is said and done and I beat you tonight, you too can take your place in the back of the line.
As far as you're concerned, Genesis? You're right. We've never gotten along, but I sure as hell intend to beat Double S tonight and anyone else who stands in my way -- yourself included. We tore the house down over the Television Championship, just think what we can do when this is on the line.
AJ pats the title.
AJ Styles vs. Genesis -- What do you think?
He looks out towards the crowd who breaks out in cheers of support.
Let's make it happen -- Whenever, where ever and in any type of match. I may not like you, Genesis, but I do respect you. You've been here just as long as I have and I think we've both proved that we're two of the top superstars in this company. So, you're on.
As far as tonight, Double S? I'm going to prove that your win over me last Primetime, was just because I let myself lose focus, but it won't happen again. You can count on that.
AJ walks to the ropes, and exits the ring as "Get Ready to Fly" by GRITS once more blares through the arena. He makes his way up the ramp and holds up his championship to a chorus of cheers.
