Rocky Romero has more than a decade of wrestling experience under his belt. Born John Rivera, he was born in Havana, Cuba, having a heavy interest, alongside his father, in wrestling after Rocky was born. Everytime wrestling aired on the television, little Rocky was front and center. He wished to pursue this dream. To become a Luchador Superstar. His father would agree, immigrating to the United States with his family. At the age of 15, he began his training at the New Japan Dojo for many years.
Beginning at 2003, he went into a wild road trip of promotions, from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in Mexico, to New Japan Pro Wrestling in Japan.
In Mexico, he became CMLL's first World Super Lightweight Champion after defeating Volador Jr. in a tournament, winning 3 more times throughout his career. In Late 2008, he migrated to its rival promotion, Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion, while still holding the CMLL World Super Lightweight Title. However, he left AAA in 2010 because of a paycut.
Meanwhile in Japan, he competed in New Japan Pro Wresling, where he was chosen as the fourth incarnation of Black Tiger, the villain of Tiger Mask IV. Their heated rivalry
Throughout his promotions in Mexico and Japan, he was well known in the United States,wrestling for companies such as Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerilla. Throughout his years he has faced WWE greats such as Daniel Bryan and Antonio Cesaro, and GZWA greats such as CM Punk. During that time, Magno was the boyfriend of La Fenix, known in the wrestling world as “The Beautiful Dragon” Mei Long. Romero and Long, however, would develop a friendship, before becoming lovers. The news spread around that Long was “cheating” on Magno, which in itself would influence the feud between Romero and Magno. Romero and Long, however, would split separate ways once the first tour of Lucha Libre USA had ended. Romero going back to Japan, while Long was signed to Ground Zero Wrestling Association
Romero wrestled in Japan for one more year before the news got around of AJ Styles and Mei Long in a kayfabe relationship back at GZWA, shortly becoming real. The thought of his rival and former lover together. It sickened him. That same month he received a call from Christopher Daniels, who had a plan of ruining AJ Styles and his success in the division. Romero would accept Daniels' offer on the table.
In 2012, Romero signed to Ground Zero Wrestling Association under the persona of El Arrendajo Ardiente and, with the help of Daniels, antagonize his rival. This proved to be successful after convincing Mei Long to lure him in and stab him in the back at Slammiversary. Now that his identity was revealed to the world, the next step is to make an impact to the federation under his true form.
