The sound of a motorcycle engine revving echos throughout the empty GZWA parking lot. It's a few hours before showtime and the Phenomenal One decided to show up a little early to prepare. A lot has been on his mind lately, and he hasn't been as social and available for ReActions and promos as he usually is. One almost has to think if the pressure of his year and a half long reign as GZWA Heavyweight Champion and recent breakup with Mei Long is finally starting to cause AJ Styles to crack.
Styles, after parking his motorcycle, heads into the arena and towards his locker room. As he approaches, he notices Christy Hemme standing by his door, distracted with her nails, without all the camera crews or typical people around her.
Hey Christy. Uh, is everything okay?
He raises an eyebrow, a little curious as to what she was doing there. He had also seen what happened last Primetime too, but she didn't appear to be concerned since no one had been standing with her.
Hey AJ. I'm fine. I just hadn't been able to get in touch with you much after Primetime lately, and I know that you had a pretty bad break up with --
Christy, look, no offense, but I really don't want to discuss my personal life. Nothing against you, but right now I'm focused on the GZWA Heavyweight Championship.
Christy nods.
I understand. Well, I also wanted to talk to you about that. Off camera, I mean. I know that when you're on Primetime, you put an act on that you're not afraid of anyone and you don't let anything bother you, but after what was discussed last Primetime, aren't you a little concerned? You could lose the championship before you even get to compete in the Elimination Chamber? What if you face Carnage? He's wanted to take you out since you came into the company.
AJ smiles, shaking his head at her words.
It's not an act and believe me, lots of things bother me. I just don't let them bother me out there. I've had this championship for a year and a half. Some people say I haven't defended it long enough to justify myself that way. Others think that I'm just champion until someone quote unquote better comes along. Truth is? Am I the best in GZWA? Depends who you ask. I've been here almost three years, and have held gold for about two of them. If that makes me the best, then so be it. I'm not concerned about the elimination chamber match. I don't want to be like everyone else in the company and say that I'm going to be the best and I'm going to win and I'm going to do this and that. You know why? Because that's all it is...People saying things. I've never been one to make my career from my words. Everyone who ever steps foot in a wrestling ring can say that they're going to be the best, that they're going to make it and earn gold. If that wasn't your goal, you would be in the wrong place. The truth is, Christy, I don't care who I face from week to week. I'm AJ Styles. People know who I am and who I'm not. They know what to expect from me and they know what I can do. When I left TNA, I decided to start over here. I wanted to reinvent myself. To be the AJ Styles that you never knew what to expect from. I think I've done that here. Well, my career isn't over yet, and my championship reign isn't over yet either.
I don't care who I face on the way to the elimination chamber match. I'm going to continue to do what I've done for almost three years, and that is to be Phenomenal. All I have to say about that match, is that if for whatever reason I don't make it to the elimination chamber as champion. I want to be guaranteed a spot in the match for redemption.
That's not so much to ask. Well, while we're off the record, do you have a preference who you want to win between Genesis and Hano Eiyu at Final Encounter?
Obviously, given my history with both men, I want Hano Eiyu to get the chance to face off against me for the championship. But, I have to be fair and I will call this match down the middle. Regardless of who wins, I will defend my championship the same way. I respect Hano, but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to hand him the title.
Really? You have the chance to screw Genesis out of the opportunity, and you're not taking it?
It's not about screwing anyone over. It's about making sure the championship is earned by the one who deserves it by winning the match. My personal opinions are irrelevant.
Again, Christy nods in response.
Well, that's really it. I just wanted to get your thoughts since I haven't been able to find you after Primetime. But I did have one more thing...while we're talking about personal opinions.
Styles looks up at her curious as to what she could possibly say following that, as Christy squirms almost uncomfortable asking the question.
Well, I know after last week...The match, I mean. You and MiMi...She kissed you as a distraction. I know that you've been involved with Mei and then Justice and --
No, no, no! You've got that wrong. I was never involved with Justice. I don't know what kind of obsession she has or had with me, but we were never involved. As far as that little distraction technique from MiMi -- Mariah, rather...
AJ smirks, trying to mask a smile as he tries to think of what he wants to say.
I would like to thank her for that. She is a beautiful and classy woman, and a little distraction every now and then is quite welcomed...But I think I need to start getting ready for my match later. Primetime will be starting soon.
Christy nods and thanks him for his time, as AJ walks into the locker room. A smile is on his face, as the door closes and the scene fades to black.
