OOC: Posting from my phone so I'll code this better when I'm back in front of a computer.
Mariah is shown on her phone as she enters the GZWA arena, carrying her bags. She enters her locker room and sets down her things as she sat down on the nearby bench.
"Jessica, it's alright. I know you're going through a lot right now. When you get back from Japan, you're more than welcome to come back to living with me. I'm not going to leave my old roommate homeless."
Mariah's expressions change to one of concern as what's said over the line isn't captured by the cameras.
"I know it hurts, Jessica. You made a mistake and you feel like an awful person. He might hate you now, but in due time, I firmly believe that you're going to make it right again. Just be patient. We'll talk more after the show, okay? Ricky told me that you were slacking a bit in your training lately, so I want you to take notes from my match tonight. It's my first title defense as Vixen Champion."
"Yes, I'm nervous but I'm going to overcome this obstacle. I'm going to continue to be an inspiration to you and women around the world, kitten. Count on it."
Mariah smiled as she hung up the phone and dug out something from out of her luggage bag. She revealed the coveted Vixen Championship and rested it in her lap before she looked towards the camera.
"I guess you all want to know why did I decide to answer Laura Jackson's challenge? It's simple really. For months, our former champion, Raven, constantly ducked and dodged challengers for her 'precious' title until she backed into a corner. All of her schemes, plotting, and cheap tricks didn't stop me from taking this title from her fair and square at Devils May Cry. I vowed that when I won this title that I would not back away from any challenge and I would be a fighting champion.
I’m not afraid anymore – I’m going to show women around the world that they don’t need to be afraid either. They don’t have to allow their fears and self-doubts hold them back. They can break free from those chains and accomplish anything – regardless of gender or race. Society beckons that we are on the crisp of a revolution for women in sports. Apparently, they didn’t get the memo as the women of GZWA have been revolutionizing sports ever since the doors opened back in 2010. We are seen as equals in every division and every aspect of this company.
One of those revolutionaries in this company is the Tattooed Beauty herself. Laura Jackson is one hell of a competitor, despite what vile act that she and Casey Cortez committed on my sister, Amanda Cortez, to sideline her with a career-threatening injury over the last few months, I actually respect her athletism. I honestly don't understand why do her and Casey have to lower themselves to 'make a name' for themselves by possibly crippling their opponents in their matches. Then again, Laura Jackson has been fighting against stereotypes her entire life. She is a woman who wants to be known as a wrestler - not a model. She has already made history in GZWA, being part of the first female tag team to win the GZWA Tag Team Championships while simultaneously being part of the first team ever to hold the tag titles. I admire her determination, she won't settle for less and she continues to aspire for more greatness. That brings her towards the Vixen Championship - a title that she could have won simultaneously on the same night if fatigue and miscommunication between her own allies didn't get in the way. That one mistake transformed the woman known as the Tattooed Beauty into a woman hell-bent on getting the one thing that eluded her grasp.
Laura's drive cannot be ignored but there's something that she's overlooking - I'm not Raven. I'm not a coward. I'm not backing away from this challenge. I'm facing it head-on. GZWA Management didn't make this match, I asked - no demanded to answer this challenge. I won't take the Tattooed Beauty lightly, but at the same time, I recommend that misfit doesn't take this Queen Bee lightly. Her and Casey may have defeated me when the Queen Bee Mafia were part of the Tag Team Tournament, but this will be a one-on-one match.
The only thing I'm going to offer is a warning. You keep your muscle-bound pet out of this and I'll keep my friends out of the mix. I'm sure you both have enough to worry about with Amanda returning to the company tonight anyway. Truth be told, I don't need Morgan Davis nor Tia Brooks to help me retain this title. I'm completely capable of fighting my own battles. If you have any sense of honor in the fiber of your being, you'll meet me in that ring without any back-up. Respect me like you wish to garner from these people around the world and show this title the respect and honor that it deserves.
Just know when that bell rings, all bets are off - may the best woman win."
A slow applause is heard from off-screen as Scary Mary walks into view.
"Spoken like a true champion, Marisol. I'm glad to see you're not all washed up and not all talk. You made me lose a bet, betting against you at Devils May Cry but at the same time, I have to know how it feels to know that you have the bullseye on your back again? Every single woman in this company is going to be gunning for you as long as you're holding that."
Mary gestures towards the title sitting in Mariah's lap.
"What are you going to do when your precious Queen Bees come for it? You've seen how that title turns every woman who's held it into a monster. You can fool everyone else Marisol, but I've seen the 'real' you. I was there remember? We had a lot of great times back then. The only thing you have to do is dump those peasants to the curb and remind everyone who you really are..."
Mariah stood up and stares at Mary, eye-to-eye.
"That was a long time ago, Mary. I care not to take away from this business instead of giving back to it."
Mary looks appalled, "I gave back to this industry! Every time I honor these commoners with my presence is a gift on it's own. Not to mention, there's the matter of my beloved Queen of Queens Tournament. It's no secret but the queen is a solid contender for the title now."
Mariah rolled her eyes, "I know what you're doing, Mary. You're trying to stir up the pot and start shit as usual. Let's be honest here. You weren't giving anything back to the business. You had a motive with your tournament. You wanted your bestie to steamroll through the opposition and win the crown just to satisfy your ego, but things didn't go according to plan. Delta surprised everyone and won the thing."
Mary smirked, "And what if it was a ploy? My former bestie is still part of the roster and she's yet another threat for your precious title. Who knows, you could be defending your title against her or Queen Delta in the near-future. Well, that is IF you manage to retain the title against the misfit tonight. Good luck with that by the way."
Mary ran her fingers slowly across the Vixen title as it laid on the bench, "One fatal mistake and you could be kissing this good-bye and anyone could snatch this away from you, just like that…"
Mariah watched Mary’s fingers glide across the title before Mary sprung to snatch the title from off of the bench. Mariah stopped her hand in motion by firmly grabbing Mary by the wrist.
“Don’t make me repeat myself, Mary. I’m not going to stumble and fall flat on my face. I’m going to continue to give the women in this company and around the world something to believe in.”
Mary’s smile grows bigger, “Don’t give me that patriotic Captain America processed bullshit, you wannabe Wonder Woman. We both know that you just want to fight Laura to get revenge for what she did to Amanda.”
Mariah shook her head, “If I wanted revenge, I would’ve done that the second that Amanda left the arena in an ambulance. No this is for me. I want to put myself through what Amanda did against her. Feel what she felt and show Amanda that she can overcome this obstacle as well. Amanda doesn’t have to worry. I’m not going to cripple her. I’m going to leave Laura’s punishment for her.”
Mary folded her arms, “Hmph, maybe I was wrong about you Marisol. You have changed… You seem weak to me. The Phoenix Queen that I knew wouldn’t lower herself with petty concerns about her friends and family. The only thing she would have concerned herself would have been with keeping that title.”
“I’m glad that you think so, Mary. You couldn’t be anymore wrong. My friends and family are my greatest strength – without them. I am nothing. I would have thought that after all of these years of scheming and mischief you would have learned that too.”
Mary narrowed her eyes, “Don’t EVER confuse me for being weak like you. I don’t care about anyone!”
Mariah picked up the title and walked out of the door with the belt draped over her shoulder, “Keep telling yourself that. I’m sure Amiee and Natasha think differently.”
Mary is left staring at the floor as the scene faded to black.
