OOC: Just getting this up before I leave work, going to code and do all of that jazz when I get home later. BTW kudos to whoever gets the comic book reference in the title.
She hasn't had a match on GZWA television in months. She was fine with that. She rather be down at the training facility helping train the future of women's wrestling coming up through GZWA. What she wasn't fine with was that she was GZWA Management's last second choice to welcome back a returning face to company.
Just thinking about it made woman known as Carrie Marie Cole's blood boil. Her fist slammed against the locker as she glanced back at her on-looker watching from the nearby bench.
"I don't like being anyone's punching bag... I hope you told your friend what she's getting herself into."
"I did."
"You told her I'm not giving her the kid gloves?"
"I did."
"Did you tell her that I broke your nose the first time we shared a ring together?"
"I did not."
"Funny. It was you who thought it would be funny to call my finish The Nosejob after that. It stuck to this day too."
"Ha, ha. I did, but Emily was the one who got a kick out of me having to wear that face mask for a few weeks while my nose healed."
"Speaking of healing, how are you holding up, Marisol? You know I was there for the Reinas show as an alternate if anyone no showed or wasn't able to compete. I got a good look at how bad Gail roughed you up there from the gorilla. Are you sure that the doctors aren't putting you back together with duct tape and crazy glue by now?"
Mariah laughs, "I got cleared this week actually. My doctors faxed the paperwork to the front office. I plan on being around for a good while longer. You're older than me and it doesn't look like you're slowing down anytime soon. You know we'll be old and gray or in the grave before we say we're going to quit."
"Speak for yourself, Grandma. I still look not a day over 25 and still at top of my form too."
Mariah frowns a bit.
"Out with it, Marisol. You know that I'm not going to easy on Blondie, so why are you really here?"
"This means a lot to Bobbi. You saw how happy she was to come out and join the students in class the other week. I'm scared that she might not believe in herself to do her best out there. Her head has been out of the game for a very long time. I guess this match will be the final exam to see if she's ready for the long haul or not."
"You shouldn't worry about that. If she's anything like you then I'm going to lay it onto her so thick that she doesn't have a choice to give me her best. Otherwise, she's going to find out quickly that maybe that she should've just stayed at home and enjoyed the rest of her life in retirement as a trophy housewife. Sorry to be blunt, but I'm not pulling any punches for your friend. I'm going to show GZWA Management to not think of me as an afterthought for when they just want someone to dance with one of the new girls."
"Carrie, it's not like that. They, along with me, respect you to the highest. I couldn't suggest anyone better to step in the ring with the new hires than you to see if they have what it takes to be a GZWA Vixen. You know that we hold a high standard for our competition here."
"I appreciate that Marisol, but you're not at the training facility everyday. You don't see some of people who clearly don't have what it takes to be in this business. I don't expect everyone to walk through those doors to be a sensation but I expect for them to at least give us their best effort and try. Some of them can't even do that. They rather take selfies while posing during training or moan about how they can't get a reality TV show gig or how hard the training is. Those individuals end up being the same ones to give up the ghost after being hit with the harsh reality that they aren't made for this. One of these days, you're going to realize that not everyone is cracked up for this, Marisol. I'm just being honest with you."
Mariah sighs, "Sue me for being optimistic. I like to have faith in the best of everyone I come in contact with - in and out of this business."
"I would love to have your blind optimism, but you've seen the girls come in and out of here like a revolving door over the past few months. What makes you think this will be anything different? Sure, your friend was a big star back when Ring of Beauty was around. She came here and didn't stick around for long. Explain to me why are you investing so much of your time trying to help her when you can be gunning for that Vixen Championship again?"
Mariah stood silent for moment as Carrie stared blankly at her, waiting for an answer.
"Well? Out with it!"
"Bobbi... she's like me. I see a lot of her in myself. I was where she was not too long ago. I found a good comfortable spot in my life not competing anymore. I thought I was done with all of... this. The drama, the stress, the pain, the anxieties... just all of it. Then the wrestling bug bites you again and it all comes flooding back that you want this again. Not just to be here, but to be great at it."
Carrie claps slowly.
"I'll tell you the same thing that I tell your students. You can want this until your hair falls out, but until you prove it in that ring, your words mean absolutely nothing.
To be honest, I'm glad that you're going to be watching your friend from ringside on Primetime. That way you both can get this healthy dose of reality. I say this as a friend, Marisol. There's nothing wrong with admitting that this isn't for you. For your sake, I hope that won't be the case with your friend."
Carrie removed the tape from her fists and slung her towel over her shoulder.
"Don't look so glum, Marisol. Who knows, your friend might be the one to teach me a lesson or two."
Mariah smiles.
"I said MIGHT... Big might."
