The main reason I haven't posted up the next match card yet is because I have been hand-writing and doing research on this topic before presenting it to all of you here. I have about 3 pages of handwritten notes that I want to discuss with you all here before we go forward with any chances. If there's anything that confuses you or you wish to elaborate on, feel free to sound off in the comments.
I'm going to start off with a definition with each kind of traditional e-federation:
Roleplay federations - These federations base all match overcomes on the evaluation of judges, or for that matter, its fedhead or staff. Winners are only determined by a decisive selection of who delivered the best effort in their roleplays for an event. This is the best type of federation from a competitive standpoint, allowing roleplayers to truly challenge themselves. However, strict RP federations don't take angles into account, if at all. Matches are put together by the federation fedheads rather than a strict booking team.
Angle federations - These federations are run more similarly to a real life wrestling promotion. In this case, angles or storylines are created and planned ahead of time and writers roleplay for events knowing where the angle is going, but without knowing the final result. The "winner" of an angle is determined on the strength of their overall efforts rather than on a week to week basis. This style of federation involves slightly less submissions than a traditional roleplaying federation, but does require handlers to work more closely together.
Hybrid federations - Match outcomes are decided by a combination of roleplay and angle aspects. Some Hybrid federations exist with a tilt toward one type of federation such as for example being a 60% roleplay or a 60% angle federation. These are popular with fedheads and handlers, as roleplays are not as long-winded as roleplay federations, but are still important. Several modern day, top federations have been hybrids, and they have quickly became the most popular type of federation.
We are traditionally thought of being a RP-based fed. RP feds are thought of taking angles out of the equation but you know that I have worked that into results regardless to make more fun for all of you in the long haul.
With the move to becoming more of a hybrid fed, I want to encourage you all to get to know your peers better and allow you to plan out your feuds long-term. We all can't be lone cowboys (and cowgirls) forever. Like Angle feds, you can work together and agree on the winners/losers until the final match of the feuds - something a LOT of you already do anyway who tend to collaborate in feuds, so honestly I don't see it would be that much of a big change to implement. This would also mean that you would have to agree on the pivotal (important key) matches for the complete build/run of your feud so you can collaborate with me on booking the shows. I would be open to allowing all of you write your own matches too since you're working together and already know the outcomes. This in turn would lead to quicker results, but there wouldn't be much mystery to what would happen. At the same time, it would mean more means of communication as all parties involved in feuds would have to know what's going on instead of a lot of the guess work I usually do on where to take you guys' feuds in results most of the time, but it opens the doors on more people wanting to work together instead of same few people in your circle of friends or what not.
Before anyone asks - Title Matches will not be in this format. They will still be RP-based defenses, along with the strength of the overall arching feud/storyline - something I have already been judging performances on up to this point doing anyway. So that aspect will remain unchanged.
Members without feuds/storylines would merely have their roleplays judged individual on a per match basis without consequences if you cannot find a feud. You won't be "punished" for not being able to find someone to work with. Additionally, if you wish to feud with yourself and bring in more characters that is fine as well. I can refuse your requests for additional character(s) in the event that I feel that anyone is abusing this feature as well. In other words, more of the same for we won't ruffle any feathers for this transition.
To make this work, we would all need to work together as this would require a regular update to the ongoing feuds. Maybe we can revive that thread/board to keep track of that, even a Google Document that everyone can edit with ongoing feuds in progress. I personally feel like that this wouldn't be a major stretch to get going as a lot of you are already working with each other on collaborations anyway.
Pros
- Speed(ier) results format
- More possible shows overall
- Possibly could lead into members being able to play more characters at once for storyline purposes; character limit per member could literally go out of the window
- Branching out and being able to work with more of your peers
- Show goes on even if stuff comes up IRL since its planned out long-term
Cons
- Shorter results - heavier focus on narratives and/or character development in most cases over traditional promos
- May lose yourself within your own universe - i.e. How just about everything in Impact Wrestling was focused on the Broken Universe with the Hardys at the cost of everything else at the time.
- Time differences/scheduling conflicts from everyone in different countries/time zones could make collaborations and planning potentially difficult
Last but not least, while I have this discussion open, let's put this out there too. Are you guys open to keeping the fed open to real wrestlers AND Original CAWs or limiting it to just Originals? You guys know how I feel about it. I like the dream match aspect and easier entry point for people not savvy to all of this that can just jump in as one of their favorite wrestlers and not worry about the taxing affair of creating a character from scratch, but I'm open to hearing other sides of the argument.
I know this is a LOT to take in but I ask you ALL to read this carefully and let's discuss this like reasonable individuals.
