OOC: Special thanks to Athena for Blake's bits in this.
Backstage following the events of Devils May Cry, the ReAction cameras follow the trio of the Mega Busters heading into the office the on site doctor to examine them after the vicious assault that they received at the hands of the Enforcers.
Matthew Miles: “Ash, you sure you are alright on your own? I’m fine with you leaning on me for support. You did take a pretty nasty bump out there for us.”
Ashleigh shook her head, “Nah, I’m fine. It comes with the territory. I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to come out there at ringside tonight and any night. It’s not like they popped my arm out of the socket or pulled a random bitch fit like Blake…”
At those words, Ashleigh looked dead at Blake Harper already sitting on the bench being treated. Ashleigh grits her teeth motioned to lunge at her for payback for Blake’s assault on her a few months prior, but Psycho Sagus and Matthew Miles hold her back.
Kevin Allen/Psycho Sagus: “Whoa, easy there tiger. We’re here to get medical attention, not make it worse for anyone else.”
Matt: “Not that I can blame her, but we know that Blake’s not one of your favorite people around here…”
Ashleigh sighed in defeat and merely smirked in Blake’s direction, “How’s it going, ‘champ’? Oh wait, we can’t call your royal highness by that anymore…”
Blake was sitting there, looking vaguely at the wall as the physician was trying to examine her arm. Whenever he touched a sensitive spot you could see the painful expression flash across her face, but just for a second. As she heard Ash throw the little jab her way, she didn’t look away from the wall, but manage to speak out.
Blake: Congratulations on the win… Great fight out there.
You wouldn’t expect it, but in the tone of her voice… You could hear defeat. And disappointment.
Kevin: “C’mon, Ash. Lay off. She already lost and she’s in here hurt to boot. No need to toss salt into the wound. Let's just let the doc check us out for we can go home. Super Mario Odyssey is calling my name.”
Ash: “I didn’t hear you tell her that after she took liberty with my well-being for her own amusement. I’m sorry but I’m the last person who will give her a pity party in this building tonight. As far as I’m concerned, she’s lucky it wasn’t me who put her in here.”
Matt shook his head, “Ash, that’s enough…”
Ash brushed the boys aside and confronted Blake face-to-face, eyeing her from head to toe. Seeing Blake defeated and broken like this made something snap in Ashleigh…
Ash finally found her clarity and said, “They are right… It’s not worth it to kick you while you’re down. I want to see you back at your best, at the top of your game, and healthy when I step in the ring with you. Do you hear me? Whenever you’re cleared and you get your shit back together, I want to be your first opponent. You owe me that much to kick your face back in after what you did to me.”
The physician moved in between Blake and Ash as he finished writing something in Blake’s medical record.
Physician: Blake, I’m sorry to say but there is not much we can do. You need a proper examination in a clinic and most probably - surgery. From the what I can see now, it is some kind of a tear in your rotator cuff, but I can’t tell you how severe it is.
Blake understood that this kind of an injury can easily take her out for 6 months if not more. She nodded her head as she looked up and saw Ashleigh still there, staring daggers at her. Slowly standing up, Blake looked at her and sighed.
Blake: If you think that this whole “first opponent after you get back” schtick motivates me to heal and get back to the ring, than you have definitely took too many blows to the head. Honestly, couldn’t care less about your challenge, your desire to rip my other arm off or the fact that you want to make fun of me, while I’m trying not to faint from the pain. I fucked up, I wasn’t in my sane place when I attacked you out of nowhere, I got left by my team, my fiance, I lost my belt and now I am out of the game for at least half a year. Do you honestly in your right mind think that me owing you a match is really a priority for me right now?
Before Ash could respond, Blake got her paperwork from the doctor and slowly started heading towards the door to the hallway.
Blake: I understand what you wanted to do. Kudos for taking the chance, but believe me, this only makes you feel like You did something good. You know, another check mark in your little book: “I motivated her to get back up from the ruble. I am a good person. Jesus loves me.”. And me? I am one step closer to killing myself. I lost everything I’ve built up in this company and I don’t know if I will ever built it back. I don’t know if I will be cleared to get back into the ring. I don’t know if I will ever be champion again. And it fucking sucks to be this kind of a failure.
For a second Blake got a bit choked up as you could see her eyes tearing up. She quickly took in a deep breath and looked at Ash, her face calm once again. Ashleigh couldn't find her voice, just standing in front of Blake awestruck.
Blake: But hey, at least you got to show how brave and strong you are, right? I would clap, but as you can see...
Blake tried to move her arm, but only could manage to grimace in sheer pain and agony. As she was heading out of the office, she nodded at Kevin and Matt.
Blake: Good luck guys, those belts are getting closer to you each day.
With that, she left the office, trying her best to ignore the growing pain in her shoulder.
With Blake’s departure, it was at that moment Ashleigh dropped to her knees and exploded into tears.
Present day… Hours before the start of the post-Devils May Cry edition of Primetime…
Ashleigh is seen walking ahead of Matt and Kevin dragging their luggage throughout the arena parking lot. Kevin runs up to catch up with her.
Kevin: “Wait up, Ash! We’re a team, remember? You’re leaving us in your dust.”
Matt: “Leave her be, man. She hasn’t been herself since that night we bumped into Blake.”
Ashleigh stopped in her tracks and spun around to face them, “It’s not like I can’t hear you two, y’know! How can I call myself a good Christian when I put my desire for payback kick her when she was already at her lowest point of her career? My faith tells me all the time that my job is to uplift my peers, not tear into them. I did completely the opposite. How can I even look myself in the mirror and call myself a good person after that? I couldn’t even find my voice to apologize or be a shoulder in her time of need!”
Kevin: “Whoa, Ash. No one’s doubting your faith. No need to drag religion into this. All of that talk always gives me anxiety and makes my head hurt thinking about it.”
Ashleigh rolls her eyes, “I’m surprised that you have anything up there to process any train of thought period…”
Kevin sighs, “I’ll give you that one for free, but don’t think you’re going to get a lifetime free pass for acting like a total bitch if you decide to take this course of action…”
Ashleigh motions to slap Kevin, but Matt grabs her wrist in motion.
“Babe, he’s got a point. Well, not the vulgar language bit… but you haven’t been yourself. Tell us, what’s REALLY bothering you?”
Ashleigh’s hands tremble as she shook away from Matt’s grip and balled her hands up in fists.
“Seeing Blake like that, makes me scared, okay? Hearing her talk like she doesn’t know if she’ll ever reach that high point of her career again is exactly what I think about each and every day. Think about it. I haven’t won a singles title or seen any remote success here or anywhere since our days in ZXWWF ages ago. I know that we’ve trained our butts off over the years traveling around the world together, but I can’t shake the feeling in the back of my head that my best days of my career are possibly behind me.”
Matthew took her hands and held them into his own.
“There’s something that’s completely different between you and Blake. Blake lost everything - her stablemates, her husband, her title, and even her good health. Everything she had going came tumbling down like a house of cards. The second she found success, she turned her back on everything and everyone that got her there. Ash, you have us and we’re not going anywhere…”
Ashleigh interrupts, “That’s what Alice said…”
Kevin adds, “Yeah, but she came back, making sure that you were the first person who knew it too. Besides, you’re our pain in the butt, not anyone else’s. We wouldn’t trade you in for a new model. You always have our back, so why wouldn’t we have yours?”
Matt chimes in, “Yeah seriously… You took that abuse from the Enforcers like a champ. I don’t know many other ladies who would step in the way of someone hurting her friends to end up on the receiving end of that assault. As for singles success, you know that we will support you in everything that you do, Ash. We know you don’t want to be our cheerleader forever.”
Ashleigh shook her head, “No, I want to be your cheerleader… Because your victories are my victories too. It’s like you guys said, we’re a team. I just don’t want to see myself hit that brick wall that Blake found herself into. No one deserves that, no matter how vile and unsavory that person has been to get to that point in their life. I want her to bounce back from this but not for my sake, but her own. She deserves that opportunity to rise again and climb the ladder to obtain that opportunity to regain the title that she lost.”
Kevin smirks, “Does that mean that you’re going to overthrow Ms. Price and take the title for yourself?”
Ashleigh shrugs, “I dunno yet. I can think about that later. Tonight’s about payback right? We’re going to repay the Enforcers for what they did on Devils May Cry. That’s the plan, correct?”
Matt nods, “Yeah, but we’re doing this by the book. No need to lower ourselves to their level… unless the match comes down to that. Can we count on you to be out there to support us?”
Ashleigh finally smiles, feeling back to her usually highly optimistic demeanor, “Of course. I have nothing but the utmost faith in you guys. It would be my honor to be out there tonight. What’s there to fear right?”
Kevin nods, “Yep. There’s nothing to fear but fear itself.”
Matt: “Says the guy who checks all of the beds and the bathroom at every hotel for the Enforcers or that Nemesis guy when we check into the room…”
Kevin: “Don’t joke about that, man! I needed a new pair of underwear that night when they almost tore the car apart trying to get us.”
Ash ponders for a moment, “Wait, aren’t you guys facing Rex Terrell and the former World Heavyweight Champion Ry Drake in that match too?”
Kevin shudders, “Don’t remind me. Rex is just as scary as any of those guys and we got Drake to worry about too. Man, this is looking like Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th… and I don’t mean the video game.”
Ash snickers, “Hey at least here you don’t have to worry about getting caught trying to swim for the boat.”
Matt: “They are formidable yes, but all eyes are going to be on the Enforcers. They made a lot of enemies that night so we might be in luck. Best thing we can do is focus on the Enforcers and just stay out of their way. We got this. We managed to beat the Enforcers twice now. This is just more flaming hoops to jump through before management finally decides that we deserve a future tag team title shot. Whaddaya say, Kev?”
Kevin: “IT’S TIME TO D-D-D-DUEL!!! Sorry, been watching too much of that Yu-Gi-OH! Marathon on Twitch Presents. But yeah, I agree. Only thing we gotta do is believe in the heart of the cards and win this thing.”
Ash: “Wait guys, one more thing. I think this would be appropriate for you guys helping me get my head back on straight tonight. Something for luck and remind ourselves of our bond of friendship together.”
